Five Things I Hate about Back to School

1. The frantic trip to the grocery store Sunday night to purchase items necessary for a happy sack lunch experience-items like Cheeze-Its and Pink Lady apples, items that were not mentioned when I asked what should I put on my grocery list when I went to the store on Friday.

2. Additional fees for every class from art to biology to accelerated integrated Algebra to the use of a locker. I don't expect underpaid teachers to foot the bill for supplies the county won't cover, but I also wonder exactly what my taxes do pay for. If it's fertilizer for the football field, we have a problem.

3. Traffic. Expect the commute to take longer the first week of school especially if your county has reduced the number of school bus stops due to budget short falls. Fewer bus stops translates to more parents driving their kids to school.

4. Anxiety. Even though my high school days are far behind me, I dream about forgetting to wear clothes to school and attending to class in my underwear or that I've skipped class all semester and will have an F due to all the accumulating zeroes. I wake in a cold sweat.

5. Waking up at 5:45 a.m. I prefer rising with the sun.
